Certain NPCs in GW1 were called “[Collector]” after their name. They might want to prevent players from having it in their name so that when youre looking at a screen filled with NPC and player names you can easily spot the service NPC names.
That's understandable. But why can't I name my character
J G Wentworth. You know, the name from those 877-Cash-Now commercials (assuming you're from the US)
Have you checked what part of the name is the blocking factor? I wouldn't be surprised if it were one of the lone letters, maybe the G because of G spot or something stupid like that.
Could be something really stupid like 'Gwent' being blocked as a catch all for blocking other companies IPs or something also. Idk if that's a thing or not though lol.
Oh yeah maybe too. I know that some lone letters are blocked though, because I like trying funny names for key farm characters and sometimes I get names blocked for no apparent reason, and it's always when I use some lone letters in the names.
I think they disallow G by itself (my hypothesis is to avoid people using G M to impersonate a GM, so possibly M by itself also). I remember trying to make a character name with G in it and it wouldn’t let me pass until I removed it.
I know it's a word. But copyright filters don't tend to make much sense when they err on the side of caution.
It's a form of the [Scunthorpe problem](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scunthorpe_problem)
Well sadly There has a rise of hate crimes against dodos.
To the point where there Is a Guy called Dodo murderer.
We must spread this message to all bird lovers
Yeah I don't know why Collector is a banned name? I tried to make a character called something the Collector and it wouldn't let me until I changed Collector to Hoarder.
They probably ported over the naming rules to some degree from GW1, and this specific one must have been overlooked and added by accident. The reason Collector was banned in GW1 was so that people couldn't impersonate npc traders (collectors) and scam people.
I once had a name "... goes Onlyfans" when that hype with OF was going through the internet. Unfortunately it got changed by anet a few weeks after. Was fun to see the reactions of people in strikes or raids or actually sending me 1 gold or 1 mc asking for pictures.
“Literally unplayable” is a meme and is obviously exaggerating for the sake of humor. Not getting the joke is a “you” problem and OP didn’t deserve your disdain.
It's a meme mate. The guy isn't saying the game is literally unplayable. You find something that is just a little off and you post it with this. It's virtually always meant as a joke.
Sure in this case it's funny because it's literally true. It's still a meme. I can't use any name the game won't take, but I wouldn't post it all the time, true or not, because it's only funny with the right combination of words. The OP is making a joke. Nameless22 didn't get that, so I was explaining to him/her so they'd know in the future.
Collector was banned in GW1, too. Never figured out why

It's your character name, and you want it NOW!
Games generally block the names of real people like that, someone before you likely had it which then got reported and the name added to the filter
It's protected copyright.
Surprisingly enough I have a character named Pact Supply Agent. On top of that my guild tag is [here], so it shows as Pact Supply Agent [here]
I have a friend who is J G Wentworth in RuneScape 😂. I know him IRL. He also has an 877 Cash Now alt

I would take J Gee Wentworth, but name is too long
Because of Gwen Thackeray maybe
What about Orphan
WoW have xXxLichkinGxXx while we have xXxCollectoRxXx
Xxxcollectorxxx eventually :)
Dont laugh but I have seen a Lichking running around in GW2.
Might be because it has "Lector" in it and it's close enough to "Lecter" to trigger a copyright match?
Lector is a word, man.

Dodo Whisperer would like to extend his greetings to fellow bird whisperer
I didn't expect Ark reference here, nice

I can't use the name Dot, because of some slur even though people literally have this name.
lel xD why is that banned xD
Moa Accumulation Enjoyer
Unable to log in is unplayable. Unable to use your preferred toon name is a "you" problem.
Welcome to the Internet. I won't be your guide, but I'm sure someone will.
"moa collector" is literally figuratively literally unplayable.

Since you’re nameless, I elect to name you “Dingleberry” in honor of your thoughtless comment
But it's "literally unplayable"
