Mods, can you start doing something about the rampant witch hunting you're allowing in this subreddit?

Karthales

They removed the thread, but few mins later they unlocked it again... Seems it even causes drama between the mods of this subreddit.

mencken

It's sad. I've mentioned it before in a comments about the meta but, this honestly isn't the friendliest MMO community. Not that wasn't obvious with things like the template swap change (something that doesn't affect them nor do they even understand but, it hurts others so that was good enough for them). I'm just ... really bummed out by this community and subreddit.

bohohoboprobono

The GW2 community is massively overhyped, but in the end it’s pretty average.

mencken

Look over to the right. Find the heading that reads "Please do not". Read bullet point #3. You are trying to incite a witch hunt. Worse yet, you're such a small and pathetic person that you had to create a throwaway to do it. All to attack the people that actually build up this community.

FiddlerMTG

Hi, I'm here to point out that you are doing a great impression of being the cancer this subreddit oozes out its very pores.

bohohoboprobono

Just think, all this time you were playing Guild Wars detective you could have been learning to lead your own meta or improving your own play so people don’t want to avoid you on the map. Stop with this toxic casual bullshit.

Nike_Phoros

Witch hunt hitting full stride now, love to see it.

Krawkyz

They are only witches if they float GIGACHAD extreme sarcasm in this comment btw

Aizza45

I think I speak for many of us when I say if you have issues with us, please come to us directly. We have real lives and being pinged at work a lot because I’m being called toxic or being attacked on Twitter is not an enjoyable way to spend a Thursday. As for addressing this, I have done nothing but try to help people get their turtle. You can ask anyone around me, I’ve been nothing but helpful to anyone who asks for it. I’ve helped lead pugs, organized groups, trained raids. Are any of us perfect? Absolutely not. We are a bunch of guys and girls trying to help the game and community. I have received threats, flame, and even had someone tell me that “cancer should’ve won” referring to my mother who is a cancer survivor. If you want to be mad at us then fine. But going on a witch hunt tirade and repetitive public discord posts and Reddit posts constantly attacking various leaders and content creators will eventually push all of us over the edge and out of the game. Is that what you want?

LordRumpo

Honestly, with all the "just quit if you don't like X or Y" messages that keep getting sent on any platform, it does seem like that's what quite a lot of people want. In my opinion, the "toxic casuals" that lash out whenever someone tells them to adapt their playstyle are way more of a problem in this community than their "toxic elitist" counterparts, simply because there seems to be way more of them.

Ok-Perception-330

Actions have consequences that don't always make sense I guess.

Posting something negative on the Reddit, it doesn’t matter what a person is mentioned for. It immediately throws their name into turmoil and conflict. The post has been deleted and we should just move on though. I wish you a good weekend and happy gw2 enjoyment

Tall-Ad3772

wait! it's Thursday already? F\*\*\* I've been hiding in that cave since monday, spamming "RIP" in map chat

mikacello

Oh good. Let’s start some good old fashioned cancel culture bullshit to this overblown drama. That should make it better. /s

thisiskitta

You literally created this account to stirr shit and are reaching reaaaaally far. What Sneb did is perfectly fine and you’re pushing it because this is a hot topic right now. Taja is unrelated to Hs. This thread is garbage, good job on the personal vendetta… it’s pitiful.

joshbl56

How is what Sneb did different from Pang? I’m actually asking as I’m only an outsider looking in to the situation. I see that Sneb is a nice guy but I thought Teapot explicitly said that trying to force people off map was bad, not their attitude while doing it. And there’s an actual video evidence of this happening for him.

thisiskitta

There is a clear difference between what Sneb was doing vs actively taking the players out of the map by luring them with the prospect that this other instance they’re on and being advertised on lfg is gonna try to organize. I don’t think saying « rip empty map » is smart nor even effective but it’s really far away from what pang did last night. There’s clearly a degree to this. Him hiding in a cave with his squad? Absolutely nothing wrong with that. That’s entirely his prerogative and players are allowed to try and get their group/friends together.

joshbl56

Yes I agree that there are degrees to this and what Pang did was objectively worse but they’re still both trying for the same objective: remove current players from a map to get their squad in. You can make the exact same argument for Pang then because all he was trying to do was get his squad/friends in. Both should have consequences when brought up regardless of who did it. Edit: okay I’ve seen some replies, including one that seemed like another throwaway account who mentioned being flamed and harassed, and I don’t think this is the right way to do anything. The internet always goes to the most extreme and that shouldn’t happen in this case. If you reply again I just want to state that when I say consequences, I mean a quick callout and like a slap on the wrist to stop it. What Sneb did is easily a 1 and Pang was a 10. They’re not the same level and this shouldn’t escalate past a small mention of what not to do. The most obvious solution is fixing squads to move to the same instance instead of throwing everyone into ransoms.

Aetheldrake

No what sneb did was cancerous to the community and 100% selfish for his friends.

Snebzor

I apologize for what I said. Huge mistake - made light of a bad situation and didn't control people well. People were doing much worse than what I was saying and because I don't know everyone in my squads, I sometimes don't know how to stop it. I won't be running the meta for a long time - it's rife for bad feelings. I'd also like to clear up that I was trying to funnel my friends in. The people joining this specific squad were from the Hs discord -- many of whom I do not know and joined exclusively to get the turtle. All of my friends already have the turtle.

Aetheldrake

I suppose I should be fair and say we all do something bad once in a while. I have no right to have been so critical either But what probably made it really bad was that it was on recording. Nobody would have known off recording xD

Snebzor

Notice how I didn't delete the recording - I believe in full transparency. Part of the beauty of livestreaming is that you are your authentic self and that involves making mistakes sometimes. I'm not immune to being human! :)

Aetheldrake

Well I also got roped into the hate train and totally moved on before your first comment to me. Reddit does bad things to me. It's like the little devil on your shoulder but there's no little angel

Snebzor

It's all good haha. Like I said - we are all human!

thisiskitta

People are allowed to play how they want, can’t they?

Aetheldrake

Nope. People aren't *allowed* to cheat and abuse exploits to dupe items and money. We saw this was a problem with the casiano debacle. Then we saw the research note "selling vendor items back to the vendors for huge money" in the last 3 weeks being a problem too. Those people who played how they wanted got banned even though it was in the game. And nobody was even told not to do it. While they probably suspected they shouldn't, this isn't the first time anet let an exploit in game *for weeks before fixing it* People aren't *allowed* to use slurs just because someone is new to difficult content. People aren't *allowed* to bot and speed hack either. There is a wide variety of strict and flexible rules and they're probably difficult to list since some of them are and aren't "official" , but *purposely* hurting the community by doing like this is probably "against the spirit of the game" No wonder metas keep failing when people like this are forcing maps to fail so their friends can do it

thisiskitta

You’re also reaching I see, using clear ToS violations as comparison in response to my snide reply. None of these are comparable to what this thread is showing. This is just an attack thread.

Aetheldrake

You never know with people anymore if it's a joke or serious

jay_veeeee

? What Sneb did is the exact same thing the other dude got kicked for Not different in any way

thisiskitta

You’re out of your mind if you truly believe so.

jay_veeeee

He literally hid in a cave and asked people to type "RIP map" in chat so people would leave It's the exact same thing lol

lanerdofchristian

It's not quite the same thing. Pang also had a bait account waiting in LFG to pull people away from his main instance fully intending to abandon them. IMO there's nothing wrong with the "hide in the cave" strat. There is something wrong with memeing about the map being dead to get people to switch, but in all likelihood there were other LFG groups they could have joined that *were* going to do the meta. Disingenuous behavior should never be promoted, but there is a difference in kind here.

jay_veeeee

true true Even while not being AS bad as what Pang did, I still find that really scummy to do

Snebzor

100% - I was being non-challant and silly about what's been happening in the community the clips you see. Really stupid of me. It's possible for there to be a difference in severity, but also still be wrong. I'm still wrong in this case and I sincerely apologize for it.

jay_veeeee

Issalright mate, feel like my comparison of the 2 was unwarranted. I still don't think what you did was commendable, but absolutely, the severity isn't close to the comparison I made. Sorry about that

Snebzor

No, no, no - don't be sorry. I'm totally in the wrong here. Really no excuse for it - all I can do is apologize, confirm it won't happen again and that I'll take measures to ensure that the people I surround myself with DO NOT do anything even more heinous. Things spiraled out of control, I didn't handle it well, and I contributed to a bigger problem. For that, I am SUPER sorry

jay_veeeee

I'll take your word for it then

Snebzor

Yeah - I saw your comment on the Hs discord and immediately popped in a voice channel to chat with people if they wanted to talk about it. No one came in to talk, but in the future if you ever have a concern my DMs are open - always willing to learn and improve. We all make mistakes - we're all imperfect. I'm no different than anyone else in that regard. Appreciate your concern and thoughts.

graven2002

I wonder if Anet could have the softcap for the map dynamically change with time left until the boss battle. Have the cap be smaller the further out you are, so organized squads can get in early and get everyone together without worrying if a dozen fishers are taking up precious map slots. Then, the closer you get to the boss battle the closer the softcap gets to the hardcap, enabling late squads/pugs to still form organically in time for the assault.

Somaliapirat

Are any of the people participating official partners with ArenaNet? If yes, Oh boi. Connor's Kitten Desaster would be small in comparison. Hope the welcoming community won't take too much of a Reputation-Hit in general.

Darth_Chain

teapot is and I think sneb is. pang I think it's an affiliate. no clue on taja

lanerdofchristian

Sneb is not.

Darth_Chain

ok he's a twitch partner but not anet yet. ok

thisiskitta

Maybe you should steer away from commenting about Teapot after telling him to jump off a cliff especially as a streamer yourself, violating twitch tos.

Darth_Chain

so one dumb statement I have apologized for makes it to where I cannot comment on anything?

thisiskitta

It’s the smart thing to leave him alone and go your own way. It was far more than a simple dumb comment and I have not seen such apology but I did see you double down about how light you think this is. Adding your voice in a witch-hunt against him and his guild is not a good look.

Darth_Chain

all I did here was clarify who was what level with anet. I had no attacks on any of my comments since teapot came in my stream

ferrilltho

Well at least one of the people you mentioned I have on my blocklist for being a dickhead in the lfg training raids I lead (I keep them tagged so they're a kick-on-sight in the future). So much so that I remember the name out of the hundreds of others on there. Community "leaders" as a concept are cringe anyway, it's something I hope people will learn to move away from.

TannenFalconwing

At the very least the qualifier for being a community leader should be greater than "has a microphone and a camera"

MalevolentMurderMaze

They nerfed the event, go earn your writs instead of being so green. The other thread has people literally celebrating sabotaging runs led by organized groups, maybe connect some dots in your head about this?

MalevolentMurderMaze

Keeping a map private isn't anywhere near the scale of a "bad deed" worth dogpiling people over. This post is hyperbolic and has done more tangible damage than anyone hiding in a cave has ever done. The level of persecution complex coming from parts of this community is frankly embarassing.

MalevolentMurderMaze

Teapot is extending an olive branch to people that have continually crapped on him because he actually cares about the game, you're doing him a disservice by propping him up like some strawman. This feels right out of the bad faith actor's handbook considering: You are standing on a soapbox as an anonymous person spotlighting individuals who would have apologized and said the exact same things today if you had not made this post. You could have been part of the conversation in the prior thread about this, or any of the discords or even the streams of the people named. Instead you made a call out post, under a throwaway. Your excuse comes off like the "im just asking questions" trope. You've just guilt tripped atleast two people out of (successfully) running the meta multiple times a day, and have solved nothing in the process. Your dogpiling adds onto the legitimate harassment others have been experiencing over this. These people coordinate events for hundreds of people every day, have taught hundreds of others how to run strikes, raids, and other group content, and they get so many insults, so much toxicity for it. Even before EoD. If your only goal was to get attention and see what the community thinks... That's pretty much the definition of shit stirring. If you didn't intend to, you still did. And then there's that hypothetical "if" the community agrees/disagrees with you statement. It feels like you're pretending you can't read the room atm. Baiting people out of maps is bad. Hiding in a cave and privating your squad is not. Harassment trivializes all of that, regardless of intent.

Krawkyz

What you are saying is these people are witches? Are we on the witch-hunt? Cause that's what this post is. Why can't you do this in private DMs?

epicfrtniebigchungus

these people are scum, jfc

Darth_Chain

man all this and all I was calling for was a higher map population or a slight more forgiving timer on the fight. I felt like this would happen and I do hope anet makes more changes to DE so this stuff stops.

mencken

Is this before or after you told teapot to jump off a cliff?

Darth_Chain

well before and I have since apologized for the obviously joking statement

ze4lex

Pls keep going, the drama is great but more importantly this meta took nothing from ibs or hot that worked for those maps and its a shitshow because it. If anet needs to be bullied into finally learning so be it.

Pontificatus_Maximus

Well said, fanboys just want sweep any unpleasentness under the rug. The official boiler room sock puppets are busy on this one.

Ok-Perception-330

I appreciate the people of this community who actively improve it by calling out problems instead silently being part of them. It's not surprising to see competitive gamers doing everything in their power to get a head but it's disappointing to know some of the streamers I used to respect are behaving in such a way. Anyways, back to the grind.
