Trying to get a friend into pauper, he's currently a big fan of modern indomitable creativity or cascade into glimpse to cheat out big creatures like emrakul. Suggestions on a deck he might like?

Superg0id

Affinity, with ravager. back before lotus was printed.... and did I hear that atog got banned??

Aethz3

I used to play mardu aristocrats back in 2019, i have not been playing mtg since covid happened

OzyLellowen

I've been trying to get a couple of my friends to build pauper decks to play against the couple I have. I dont really know much about the format other than Tortex and acid trip (my decks), and the few that I've played against (U fae, burn, RW bully, B control). My friends likes playing big dumb stompy dudes and making infinitlybig creatures respectively. What should I recommend to them?

cucumberhorse

mono g stompy, boggles

Drilad

modern merfolk

Girl-in-Glasses

Simic flash?

ServoToken

Depending on the aspects of simic flash that you enjoy, you'll probably like either the UWx flicker decks that just have answers to everything stapled on to creatures that you constantly flicker back and forth, or the mono blue ninjas / faeries deck that flashes in tiny disruptive threats and beats down while the opponent is knocked off their game plan.

KillinTheBusiness

In edh & cedh I’m trying to have as much damage as possible or +1/+1 counters. My decks in that format are Jeska/Ishai, Jeska/Dargo, and Marwyn (going wide then giving everything haste)

Aylameow7

Modern zoo from a decade ago

Al_Hakeem65

There is the Naya Domain Zoo Deck, using Wild Nacatl, Kird Ape, Matca Rioters and Tribal Flames with Presence of Nature. It's a fun deck

NonreciprocatingDew

Azorius control - modern

GreenerSkies8625

Izzet Faeries/Skred

ScaryBreakfast1

My favourite decks in pioneer are mono black vampires and gruul possibility storm combo. Any suggestions for pauper? Thanks!

ServoToken

The black devotion deck is very solid in pauper. It's got similar thought trees to the vampire deck. The closest analog to possibility storm is the Familiars deck, a UW deck that looks to loop ghostly flicker with Mnemonic wall over and over to gain infinite life or mill infinitely. There aren't a ton of green creature decks that can pivot into a win out of nowhere if the creature beatdown plan isn't working. There's the presence of Gond combo with Midnight guard, but there isn't a solid shell that anyone's built around that and done well with yet.

OneHalf-189

Hi all, I'm not new to the format and I've played mono black before but now I want to try another deck just to not be too behind with the actual meta. Currently I play MonoGreen Tron in Modern but I also like UB Mill and UR Seismic Swans (discard lands to do damage) archetypes, also in Standard I've played mono blue when Curious Obsession was still in that format (so be aggro and draw cards). Finally, I also love Commander and artifact-based decks in general (Glissa and Yahenni with sacrifice mechanics, Depala Vehicle tribe, and a Karn colorless deck still in constructions). What would you suggest to me?

_why-not_

I may be wrong but it doesn't seem like your decks have a good analog to pauper. You could try Tron, but those decks just got hit and are struggling to find their best form. Aggro and draw sounds a lot like [[Ninja of the Deep Hours]], so you could try either dimir fae or mono-u fae. Honestly though since you like artifact strategies so much in commander I would recommend new and worse affinity. Even after everyone's favorite Atog got banned it's still a viable deck. It sounds like you would probably like the [[Krark-Clan Grunt]] version more than the affinity storm version. It pretty much does the same thing as the Atog version with a worse finisher. But it is generally all about sacing artifacts for damage and value.

Coming from modern where i play usually dredge or 4c domain what could suit me? I realized i got already a lot of UR skred but is it good?

_why-not_

Skred is definitely competitive! As far as dredge goes you could check out [[tortured existence]] (aka tortex) it's the dredgiest list around and has also been getting some results recently, but it is notoriously difficult to pilot.

ThryxxHeralder

I like playing Xerox (Draw) and Storm style decks. Any suggestions?

cpjones_swag

If you really just want to poke through your deck, I recommend trying UR curve.

_why-not_

In pauper we have most of the good xerox cards. I would check out pretty much any of the tempo blue decks. So mono-u fae, ub fae, and izzet skred all play with a lot of cantrips. Storm wise we have cycle storm aka ping storm which is far from the cheapest deck, in pauper but it is really cool and is just a storm deck built around cycling a bunch of cards and killing your opponent with [[Drannith Stinger]].

TheFrenchPoulp

I have a very poor understanding of Pauper meta (especially current) and looking for something new. My local meta consists of a RG ramping into Cascade dudes, an infinite life combo, a control Tron (although I'm not sure what the list might look like today) and likely a Faerie too. We usually play not competitively while waiting for the next Legacy round or drinks at the bar **Legacy**: too many to list but all time favorites go to Doomsday brews and Landstill **Pauper**: TortEx and Turbo Fog (I just sleeved Tron Storm but it's not viable anymore without Prism)

Atakori

I just like GoodStuff decks that are more "Jack of all trades"-y than others who have a singular gameplan that, if stopped, can't really do much. I especially like Red Artifact decks with their scrapping mechanic of tossing away artifacts to recover resources from the Graveyard/empower their units, but I presume that having the format restricting to only commons you can't exactly have as wide of a toolbox... Willing to hear suggestions for decks I should check out, tho!

TanteFjante

The deck is insanely hard to play but Tortured Existence sounds like your thing. It's a graveyard toolbox deck that uses tortured existence and dredge cards to grind the opponent out. If you'd prefer to play with artifacts try affinity, it's an artifact aggro deck that can play a long game with Blood Fountain, Thoughtcast and Deadly Dispute.

MgoonS

My wife wants to play something as close as possible to Psychatog from odyssey/invasion Grindy control with U/B.. counters and discard. Low creature count. Any help?

TanteFjante

There are Mystical Teachings control decks that sound similar to what she likes but UB Faeries is a lot better and probably scratches a similar itch. My favourite control deck is Grixis Serpentine Curve.

thewhippingirl

Forgot, another favorite of mine is artifact decks. I have a black/green commander artifact deck focused on food tokens as an example. Would love to see what can be done in pauper.

TanteFjante

Affinity is an artifact based aggro-midrange deck that uses affinity creatures like Frogmite and Myr Inforcer in combination with cards like Deadly Dispute and Thoughtcast to generate lots of card advantage.

AndromedaLark

I mostly play commander, used to dabble in legacy. Fan of monowhite control/stax decks as well as enchantments and more generally control decks. Something slow and disruptive that wins through cumulative advantage is ideal for me.

TanteFjante

A slow midrange deck would be Orzhov Pestilence or if more strict control would be your thing Grixis Serpentine Curve, UR/UB Faeries or possibly Tron but I don't have a clue how it looks after bannings. Personally I really enjoy Grixis Serpentine Curve. It uses Pieces of the Puzzle and Frantic Inventory for card advantage and has lots of removal and cantrips.

thewhippingirl

Tribal decks: especially vampires, pirates, eldrazi, merfolk, bat and krakens. Tokens, especially artifacts like treasure or clue or food.

[deleted]

There are a lot of fun tribal decks in Pauper! uG Elves WrG Slivers R & BR Goblins (aggro and combo, respectively) B Zombies U Fae (more a shell than a pure tribal list) I think you could get Vampires to work, but it would probably be more of a Rogue tribal with Morsel Theft being a payoff. If you're looking for fun but not necessarily competitive: UB Ninjas, BR Minotaurs, WU Merfolk, Zubera Storm, WB Clerics, WUB Spirits are all serviceable. As far as tokens go, Boros Bully, WB Evoke use 1/1 bird token beats. Affinity likes making artifact tokens for sac fodder.

Concept_Sculpter

I like playing stuff that are tempo decks, like madness in soi and odyssey standard. I like playing oath of druids control in cedh as well. I like decks that are easy to learn but have a high ceiling to master.

[deleted]

MonoU Fae is the premiere tempo deck in Pauper. Play patterns change depending on matchup.

Flying_Rat001

Fan of EDH, enjoy bounce, etbs and death triggers. Currently a huge fan of [[Leonin Relic-Warder]] + [[animate dead]] in my primary EDH deck. Also enjoy spellslinger strategies where I can go tall or wide

[deleted]

I recommend Moggwarts. It's a goblin tribal Persist combo deck utilizing Putrid Goblin and First Day of Class to generate infinite red mana for a big ko.

DaxamLhant

I am a modern and EDH player. In EDH I tend to play decks based on dumb ideas or a more toolbox style of deck. As for modern I play burn and affinity. I already plan on converting my modern burn to pauper burn, but I’m curious if there was a toolbox style deck as a second one I’d pick up

[deleted]

Well, the best toolbox deck, UrzaTron, just got gutted. That being said, Simic and perhaps Bant UrzaTron will still work. The archetype is in a rebuilding phase and I'm not sure what resources to direct you towards for bleeding edge development.

Be-702

So, I've been wanting to play a modern deck called u-tron, a blue control deck that makes use of the tron lands. Is there anything similar to it in pauper? Also I got really interested in the affinity decks just before it's ban, I know how to substitute Atog, but any help with finding a list that includes this new banlist? Thanks in advance for the help!

ProPopori

Tron is playable here, but its win condition is generating a shit ton of value and recursion until it buries the opponent and then locks em out of the game. U Tron is similar but has more haymakers, if you like the card advantage side of u tron then you'll tron here. It recently got hit with some bans but the deck should in theory still function well.

Voulthe

Hi, I mostly play Legacy and Commander. In legacy the decks that I like to play are Mono B Reanimator, Eldrazi Post and Tribal Eldrazi In commander I like to play Stax strategies or jank Tribal decks.

_why-not_

Tron is analogous to post, but that got hit with the most recent banlist. Black is really good in pauper as it has both controlling and aggro tools, so both BDW and MBC are viable options. Reanimator probably covers most of what you're looking for, but it has been a pretty niche deck of late. I still think it's super fun!

Crafty-Trade-1837

Hi, I like to drain life from my oppo (he loses X life and I gain X life). Can I have suggestions for a Pauper deck with that strategy, please? Or a similar one. Thank you!

ProPopori

Mono Black Burn is that. Also theres corrupt control which is a mono removal deck that has 4 [[Corrupt]] to drain their opponent to zero and somebody mentioned mono black control which is a midrange deck that runs [[gray merchant of asphodel]] and drains the opponent that way.

_why-not_

Well in pauper we do have one of the best draining cards ever printed in Gary. So I would suggest Mono Black Control.

p3r3dh3l

Well, i'm just a kitchen table player, and all my decks were total homebrews with lots of 1- and 2-ofs except for a Rakdos Guild and Shades themed decks and my version of Mono B Aggro/Devotion with [[Dread Shade]] + [[Thieves' Tools]] as the initial idea. In my brews i mostly use black and blue, but i'm open to try the other colour combinations, i don't know how to play without black tho, hah. Didn't really like all the meta decks, but i lack exp in building with only commons, especially finding wincons or build-arounds in that slot🤷🏻‍♀️

_why-not_

If you like swinging and pumping there are some black aggro decks that use madness as a win con. You check those out. The idea is you attack with a creature like [[Putrid Imp]] and discard a couple to do a lot of damage and out race your opponent.

p3r3dh3l

Thanks! I'll check it out for sure!

I've been getting into enchantress in modern & historic. Does pauper have any kind of prisony/lockout decks, akin to Nine Lives+Solemnity combo, or solitary confinement? I guess land destruction is fair game too (I'm a bad person, sorry). Also into hatebears/taxy decks if those are around. EDIT: just looked up an Acid Trip deck. I think I could have some fun with this. Anyone have an up to date deck list?

_why-not_

Ponza (land destruction) used to be quiet viable, but the new MH2 bridges have really hurt that dream. The most common prison combo would be [[Stonehorn Dignitary]] and a ton of blink spells. Found in familiars and some pre banlist Tron decks (not sure how they look now adays). Acid trip is a super cool deck. I tried for a while with little success, but now that the meta has slowed a bit feel free to give it a shot. [Here is a video](https://youtu.be/bWHDJ-2_MXo) I don't know if this is the best list available, but mix it up and have fun with it!

so_zetta_byte

Thanks! I actually started that video yesterday. The youtube comments were pretty helpful with some suggestions too, and I've been taking a look at some lists within the past year or so for ideas. Might be jank in the current meta but seems like there are a bunch of different directions people are poking into and that's neat.

_why-not_

Awesome! Glad you like it. I tried it with a familiars shell for a while, but my build was a little inconsistent

Blokron

Noncreature spells and control. I primarily play commander and my first deck was [[Niv-Mizzet Parun]] and my current favorite is [[Elsha of the Infinite]]. Favorite color combo is Izzet, in case that wasn't obvious.

khadathbasher

Cycle storm is the closest to pure storm. Cycle storm is... Uh, it's not exactly cheap. You could buy faeries, elves, and boros Monarch for the price of cycle storm haha. Moggwarts and familiars are two other combo lists though. If you want Izzet, the best deck (and a top tier deck in general) is Izzet skred. You run bolts and skred with the faerie package and it's a really terrifying tempo list. I personally prefer Dimir Fae but ymmv

In addition to the above, there's the relatively popular Moggwarts combo list. [[First day of class]] + [[putrid goblin]] + [[skirk prospector]] + mana outlet (usually [[makeshift munitions]]) is the wincon. Easier to assemble than you think but still susceptible to getting blown up.

[[Axebane Guardian]] + [[Galvanic Alchemist]] and enough defender to make each loop mana positive. [[Midnight Guard]] + [[Presence of Gond]] There are some ways to go infinite with [[Ghostly Flicker]], but most flicker decks don't really bother with them any more since they can just win off of the value of flicker loops without going infinite.

I usually play commander which is probably not comparable but I do like some Token Jank in standard, currently Abzan with many "sac a creature; do stuff" effects. (Green is only in for Skeletal Swarming which obv isn't in Pauper but you get the idea).

Tits_McGee2120

You might like saprolings then. This is a pretty stock standard Saprolings list but tokens and sac is literally the bread and butter of this deck. https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/4493337#paper

saxophoneplayingcat

Thank you! Man seeing that price after assembly my commander deck is just insane, guess I'll just get those in case I'll ever run into someone with a Pauper deck. :)

Tits_McGee2120

Glad i could help! If you ever play on MTGO I'll play some games with you.

saxophoneplayingcat

I don't have MTGO but maybe I'd be nice to test the format. Have to figure out the economy though, I guess I can't just have the deck even at pauper level :) Or do they grant some starter budget? I know there are these tix but not it they can be achieved via gameplay or only for real money. If I'm going to try it I'll get back here but I'm not sure yet. Thanks for the offer!

Tits_McGee2120

So mtgo requires a $5 buy in but if you make your account and do the buy you can go to card hoarder and make an account and since you're new on MTGO they'll give you 4 free credits and saprolings is cheap enough that your bot credits will buy you the deck. MTGGoldfish has videos both on how to get started on MTGO and how to play MTGO for almost free Cardhoarder also has a free loan program where you can borrow 5 dollars worth of cards for free at any time then trade them back in and some pauper decks can be rented for that price none of the big competitive ones will be that cheap but you can definitely make some decks work for 5 tix https://youtu.be/tS3TV3mh-T4 https://youtu.be/_4e75aHlFVo

saxophoneplayingcat

Amazing, thank you for the ressources!

ozymandias9999

What do you have for Janky decks? Weird synergies/ something with fun interactions

khadathbasher

Will always plug TortEx as long as you're playing IRL and the people you play with are cool with it. Zubera storm is funny too. I've seen someone doing a genju + freed from the real list before. It was really bad but like... It was funny!

ChacaFlacaFlame

How do you want to combo? Infinitely casting the same card while causing triggers, playing a storm/storm like deck, or just turn 1 reanimation

ozymandias9999

Triggers seem fun

ChacaFlacaFlame

Well there’s the banishing knack/Retraction helix that will help infinitely cast a 0 mana artifact and ping to death, or there pauper KCI where you cast and sacrifice a infinite amount of artifact creatures

mcp_truth

I like to play Affinity. Anyone got ideas? I'm currently on WURG with Carapace, Atog, and Prophetic Prism but I need to change that obviously. Is there a list with black or just jeskai?

khadathbasher

Post-Atog affinity is still really good, though you'll wanna wait a few weeks if you just want to netdeck the best affinity list. Grixis affinity should still be good (see today's challenge) but I would personally be very curious to see Jeskai affinity given some of the metalcraft synergies you get access to and some of the MH2 support. Tinker for yourself tho! If you're familiar with other 60 card formats, there's no harm in experimenting, especially when your failed experiments cost you $20.

GreenLanternOfReddit

Hello! My heart and soul belongs to death and taxes style decks. I played said deck in modern and legacy and I play mono-white hatebears in cEDH currently. I also enjoy midrange value piles as I dabbled in Mardu and Abzan in modern back in the day. Basically, I love creatures and I love white cards.

khadathbasher

D&T is pretty unsupported unfortunately, a side effect of how limited balance pushes most hatebears and stax effects up to uncommon/rare. There's certainly no Thalia analogue, for example. If you like the grindy as hell playstyle, maybe BW Pestilence lists could be enjoyable... They tend to prey on similar things. The best white lists are Mono W Heroic the two Boros variants (bully and Monarch) but those all lean aggro. That said, people have also been experimenting with Weenie and Soul Sisters lists. If you want capable of Midrangey creature gameplay, maybe mono g stompy? (Hope this helps)

so_zetta_byte

I'm commenting just to see when someone responds, because this seems really interesting to me too.

khadathbasher

DragonKing258

I love taxing and creature-based tap out control, my pet decks are all forms of Death and Taxes. Anything for me?

anzoxy361

Hells kitchen and ponza (with no W6 or karn)

mcp_truth

What's hells kitchen archetype?

anzoxy361

You use Cauldron Familiar and Witches Oven for a grindy food value deck and have Asmor with Cookbook pitching Feasting troll king to cheat it out. It is just a green/black grindy value deck.

khadathbasher

THE green black value Grindy deck in pauper is TortEx. It even has dredge!

khadathbasher

I've seen Gruul Ponza before but you might have to do a lil digging on MTGGoldfish to find it.

anzoxy361

Thank you very much I will look into that!

Tits_McGee2120

Got just what you need. Stock list but its landfall. https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/4430716#paper

Trackstar557

Ooh looks nice! Is it an established archetype or is it more of a rogue strategy? I’m assuming the gameplan is make a creature big off of landfall and just swing face using swipe to clear blockers.

Tits_McGee2120

I would say its somewhere in the middle its something people play but its not like 6% of the meta or anything crazy like that. And yeah gameplan is pretty simple. Stick a landfall creature in a RG deck then reap rewards lol

DarthPinkHippo

Is dino tribal viable?

Dr_Angelic

I’ve had a difficult time looking through pauper decks because I love different styles in different formats: Constructed: Aggro or Burn EDH: Janky u/r infinite spells or cheating things into play Draft: Tempo/Card Advantage

khadathbasher

I'll add that rakdos reanimator is a really bad but also very very very funny deck to play. Most of the time you will lose, sometimes you'll get an early ulamogs crusher and feel like a god.

khadathbasher

Burn is a fun middle of the pack deck in pauper with access to a shit ton of rrrreally nasty classics. TortEx is janky and weird. Fun? Not sure. But it is a thing. Overall vote for you goes to faeries of some kind. Dimir Fae seems like the better positioned over Izzet Fae post bans.

Dr_Angelic

Interesting, I'll take a look at them! Would Boros Monarch be worth taking a look at as well? Maybe I can revitalize a pauper scene at my LGS since standard & modern have been really falling off. (After things look better from an in-person perspective first, though.)

khadathbasher

Boros Monarch is a classic. UB Fae + Boros Monarch could be a good duel deck set up too for teaching the format. Maybe elves as a third?

Dr_Angelic

Oh man, I have a friend who has a literal collection of every Llanowar Elves, signed. Pretty sure I could convince him to put together elves to test that out. Thank you very much for the advice!

khadathbasher

Yep! Each of those should cover the classic things each color does and they are all capable of outplaying each other. Elves and Fae in particular border on legacy in play patterns.

AloeVera_01

I built modern Dredge and a couple aristocrat commander decks. I also enjoy a good spellslinger commander now and again

ChacaFlacaFlame

While dredge isnt easy to do, aristocrat like decks are everywhere, Moggwarts is the most viable I think

dukeboy36

I mostly play modern and like self-mill decks (I have a U/R underworld breach grinding station deck and a R/G vengevine hollow one deck). I would love to get into pauper but I'm a little overwhelmed... any suggestions on some kind of value-ey self mill deck? (is mulch a playable card in pauper?)

MaximoEstrellado

Mulch is a bit rough but we got "better" mulches lately with some Modern Horizons cards and new sets. \[\[Accumulated Knowledge\]\] maybe up your alley but if you really wanna toy with the graveyard, \[\[Tortured Existence\]\] decks is your deck. It's an underdog and tricky to do well with, but very rewarding.

My favorite decks are grindy midrange. Think old school jund in modern. I enjoy playing for a slightly longer game but am not a huge fan of land go control.

MaximoEstrellado

I'd say the best suited deck for you is Boros Bully or Monarch being white red, or if you preffer a slightly more controlling list, BlueRed Skred fairies. If you like to be underdog maybe White black pestilence, wich plays a fair share of discard and controls the game. This is more of a controlling deck however.

Scrooge_McPatriot

SkyeSpider

In modern, I play Merfolk. In pioneer, I play a boros tempo deck. In EDH, I tend to prefer voltron style decks.

NoHaxItsLag

Voltron? Bogles are for you. Smack em with a big boy with hexproof, first strike, trample. Slap on a cartouche of solidarity so you don't get rocked by sacrifice effects, the bane of Voltron players, and go to town.

[deleted]

Mono Blue Delver sounds like your playstyle. It's the premiere tempo deck of the format and opponents are almost always on the backstep. It plays a lot of fae so it scratches that tribal itch.

SkyeSpider

Thanks. I’ll get to it, then.

itsrazzie

In modern I enjoy playing mono white control or u/r delver. Anything with combos or really fun control.

[deleted]

UR Skred (albeit the worst of the Fae decks, it's still really strong) or UrzaTron, the premiere control deck. These are both t1 decks and you can't go wrong choosing either.

itsrazzie

Thank you so much! Any particular site or link to use to look up these decks?

[deleted]

mtgtop8.com and mtgdecks.net will have tournament results and the most recent deck lists. You can also use the Pauper Challenge results on wotc's website (they are also posted on the subreddit regularly).

Aestboi

In Commander my favorite strategies are Spellslinger, Blink, and Voltron. In Standard my favorite decks have been Jeskai Transmogrify (with Dream Trawler) and Orzhov Clerics/Pyre of Heroes. Also in draft I usually enjoy tempoey decks like Izzet spells or Azorius flyers.

_why-not_

Chickentits has a good recommendation, and as far as voltron goes heroic is a strong and fast Voltron deck. Decks like dimir fae also have that fliers and tempo theme.

Aestboi

whoa, those Heroic decks are cheap as hell. Will definitely think about picking one up. Out of curiosity, how does the deck avoid just running out of cards? Since everything is 1-2 mana. Would something like [[Defiant Strike]] be any good in there? And Dimir Faeries looks really strong too! Faeries are a super underrated tribe and I like the tempoey nature with the Spellstutter Sprite.

_why-not_

Yeah they are! I picked one up as a good aggro deck to test against and I've really liked playing against it. Generally yeah, you just keep a lower land hand and put it all down on the table. [[Defiant Strike]] is definitely an option I've seen it played before, but it doesn't help ethereal armor and doesn't really protect our creatures. It might seem like that's whatever since it replaces itself, but since you are generally on 2 or 3 lands it can kinda slow you down. Feel free to try it if you like it! Fae are awesome, but aren't really an underated tribe in pauper. They have been fairly meta for a while.

looked up a list and it sounds great! I’ve actually been wanting to play a prowess deck in some format for a while and this seems like it fits the bill. Love all the Phyrexian mana spells in there (I’m assuming Gitaxian Probe is banned?)

[deleted]

Yeah Gitprobe has been banned for a while.

BlackoutNerdy

In EDH I play Muldrotha. On Arena I've played RUG Flash and Yorion Enchantresses. In Modern years ago I played Abzan Midrange, and traditionally I play Control in Standard formats.

[deleted]

Cycle Storm. Lots of yard play, your constantly recurring creatures and spells from the gy and snowball into a pinger win or with a fat Horror of the Broken Lands.

bionicmoonman

I mainly play EDH, and most of my decks in that format have some sort of graveyard/aristocrat strategies in them. Dimir zombies, golgari insects, abzan graveyard/aristocrat combos. I like using my graveyard as a toolkit.

[deleted]

I think you would really enjoy Black Sac or Moggwarts. Black Sac is an aristocrats deck that pumps Mortician Beetle or Carrion Feeder as outlets. Moggwarts is a persist combo deck utilizing Putrid Goblin, First Day of Class, and Skirk Prospector to generate infinite mana into a huge Flamewave Invoker bomb. Its tribal, it plays in the yard, its combo, and its goblins.

Remarkable_Track_673

I like to play mono blue Martyr in legacy. What do you guys think would be similar?

[deleted]

Closest would be Mono Blue Delver, I believe. A fantastic tempo deck that uses a backbreaking Fae package.

TheBlindedOwl

I really like amulet titan mainly because of the combo aspect. And because you can get a really big creature really early and attack for game. also like madness a lot and have seen a list for that here already.

Draconoel

You should give Walls combo a chance. The deck is very fun to pilot and "combo" oriented. You use defenders that generate mana to accelerate into big Dinosaurs and Pirates with cascade and go to face or combo with one of the walls that generate 3+ mana and an untapper to generate infinite mana and win with Secret Door or another infinite mana outlet.

TheBlindedOwl

Sounds like fun

_why-not_

I have to say I haven't ever played amulet titan, and I don't know of anything too similar in pauper. As far as the feel of Amulet Titan, Elves seem like the most similar to me similar to a [[Field of the Dead]] Amulet Titan build. I'm also not an elves player, but they both have that feel of getting to a break point and then taking control of the game all of a sudden. I hope that helps!

Hey, I've been interested in Pauper for a while, but finally took the plunge and set up a MTGO account yesterday. I'm planning to just play the format casually for the moment, though, so I'm looking for a relatively cheap deck (ideally with red in it) to test out the waters with. [This Naya Zoo](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/948994#paper) list has catch my eye (although I'd be subbing out the Pyroblasts to start with), but any other suggestions would be appreciated. Here's a list of my main EDH decks: * Xyris - Stompy * Kalamax - Spellslinger * Brudiclad - Tokens/Stompy * Alesha - Reanimator Thanks in advance!

fivehitcombo

i like all forms of combo deck, what are the most viable pauper combo decks?

Cryomanc3r

Moggwarts and cyclingstorm are the main combo decks in pauper

_why-not_

The big combo decks at the moment afaik are Familiars (infinite etbs by flickering your own stuff, but it plays more of a control or tempo deck new), Walls (Generate obscene amounts of mana with [[Overgrown Battlements]] and with your choice of mana sink), Reanimator isn't necessarily a combo deck but it does cheat on mana so I'm putting it here, Moggwarts (uses persist on [[Putrid Goblin]], the +1/+1 counters from [[First Day of Class]] for a creature that never dies. Pick a sac outlet and do whatever you want), and last of the major combo decks is cycle storm (imo one of the coolest decks but not really my playstyle you generate mana with all of the many black rituals in pauper and cycle forever with [[Drannith Stingers]] out to ping your opponent to death). I play a control heavy version of familiars and a buddy that plays Moggwarts, and those are what I see as the best combo decks, but I could be wrong just find what you like pauper is a format where you can make decks you really like!

mezerdie

i started playing pauper recently and i wonder, if there is some kind of infinite mana combo, except fot Moggwarts and Walls combo, more like flickery way, like [[Peregrine Drake]] type effect. also, i'm a blue player, so i don't mind, if there will be blue in the deck. if there is no such deck, maybe you could help me with some explosive aggro deck, want to try this archetype out, it looks pretty interesting, thanks for help in advance :)

_why-not_

Well you are in luck. There is an infinite flicker deck (though it tends more toward a simple control or prison play style now adays). The deck is called familiars after its namesake card [[Sunscape Familiar]] (and in dimir though less common [[Nightscape Familiar]]). It revolves around using a discounted [[Snap]] to generate mana and tempo, and [[Archeomancer]] or [[Mnemonic Wall]] with a flicker card like [[Ephemerate]] or [[Ghostly Flicker]] to do it all again! Throw in a [[God-Pharoah's Faithful]] for infinite life, [[Stonehorn Dignitary]] to lock out your opponent, or [[Sage's Row Denizen]] to mill them!

I play legacy RG Lands, modern lantern control, UW control in most other formats. Huge fan of Reality Acid, if that’s still viable?

Aguantare

In commander, I play Anje BR madness combo, sultai mutate, grixis vampire tribal, and vaevictus the fire as permanent tribal. Definitely a little all over the place, but any suggestions would be great! I would love to branch into white if possible as well!

RedDeuce2

In legacy I play Post, DnT, and various decks that use the City of Traitors/Ancient Tomb package. In Modern I play Traditional Tron, Eldrazi Tron, KGC Tron, Mill, Burn and Soul Sisters.

GreenerSkies8625

You’ll probably be most suited to flicker tron, our local big-mana deck. It’s a very control-oriented deck, where you use flicker effects with huge amounts of mana to out-tempo your opponent setting up big oppressive loops. Unfortunately, we don’t have a DnT like deck necessarily, but there are a variety of tempo decks for you to explore.

Particular_Park_6393

Hello! I love decks that steal permanents from other players! Is that possible in pauper? Is infect pauper still playable? Thanks :).

[deleted]

There are a few decks that can lock opponents out of combat, but theft isnt an archetype supported in Pauper. Tron and Turbofog if you're interested. As for Infect, yes it is still playable but I haven't seen it on mtgo in a couple of months. MonoG Infect is the most common. MonoW Infect is also a thing. Bogles, MonoW Heroic, and Blitz have taken over that space.

GreenerSkies8625

Mono-g infect is the most popular, but I used to play a Simic list at casual tables in my lgs… it was fine I guess but if you’re looking for consistent wins then take any of the other aggro decks listed above.

Serothrine16

Totally new to Pauper. Looking to get a deck. I play 8-rack in Modern and Historic. Anything close?

GreenerSkies8625

Nothing all that close in the meta… you could try a MBC deck, which is mostly heavy creature removal but has some discard stuff. Mono-b Ninjas is very janky but does feature more of a discard focus. Lmk if you need help finding a list.

Nerodimarte_

Looking for a pauper vampire deck to play with my friends! It doesn't have to be competitive, just something fun to play (maybe with some cool mechanics?) Thanks!

oaklandmurphy

Unfortunately there really aren't any payoffs for vampire tribal at common. A modified version of Mono black burn is probably the closest you could get to a decent vamp deck in pauper. It already plays some vampire and vampire-themed cards like [[guul draz vampire]], [[bump in the night]], [[sovereign's bite]] and technically [[changeling outcast]]. You could replace some of the other cards with more vampire themed cards like [[pulse tracker]], [[vampire lacerator]], [[marauding blight priest]], and [[vampire's kiss]]

I_am_Purp

I played against a deck a few days ago that was BR Vampire tribal with some black burn/life steal that synergized with having an opponent with low life, such as Guul Draz Vampire, and it could sideboard into a near creatureless burn deck to turn off sided in removal. Not sure how good it is, but it caught me off guard big time.

Id like to take a break from tempoish decks. Embrace either lands archetype or full control/mill if possible. Part of the reason is that I tried to buy spellstutter sprites some time ago and they were inaccessible.

Black deck with some nice creature based grind: Zombies! Token overwhelm: Boros Bully or White Weenies. Decks playing \[\[Battle Screech\]\]! Fun tricky value-based deck with built in combo potential: UW Familiars! A deck built around comboing: Moggwarts! Different versions of every deck exist, but I'd look at these. You van find lots of people playing these decks online so you can see what you would like to try.

Have never played pauper before and planning to give a try to this format. I prefer aristocrats archetype to pilot and 90% of the time my decks are in pure Orzhov colors (what a surprise!). But after quick web search it seems that Orzhov aristocrats in pauper are not very viable. I already started to build Orzhov lifegain Midrange deck and Orzhov Pestilence, but not sure they will suit my play style. So any recommendations of good aristocrats decks to build are highly appreciated.
