I’ve heard it’s very normal to have all sorts of weird shit in the drains I would not be too alarmed as long as you’re not running a fever you should be okay the drains are doing their job. Never hurts to call the dr though if you are worried
Thank you! I just keep getting worried about infection and the doctors never told me about the extent of the weird stuff that can end up in drains, I'm just making sure nothing coming out smells bad at least cuz I hear thats a big indicator for infection 🤔
I would call your surgeon/their office to ask about it, I personally didn't have anything like that show up in my drains, but I was really lucky and had a very easy time healing.
Yeah I should call them, I called yesterday and they said I should give it some time since it's only been a day or two after surgery so if I keep seeing more like this I'm gonna call for sure cuz I'm worried
Maybe feel the consistency? If it looks like a bloody pus, it should be fine. Smell it too. I know it’s gross but I got an infection and that’s a tell-tale sign! If it smells bad=prob infection. Tons of clots came out for me, it’s probably normal. Just look out for severely snotty discharge. Hope ur healing is going well!:)
Totally normal. I sent my doc pictures all the time bc my anxiety was just like yours ! had my drains taken out 3 weeks ago.
Got this from my doc….
Signs of infection:
- Yellow/green discharge that is increasing
-the smell changes. 🤮
- Change of the size of incision
(You probably can’t see it yet?)
- incision is hot to the touch
- fever
- increasing or unusual pain (you just had fat bags cut off of you. It’s gonna hurt at times)
- excess bleeding that has soaked through the dressing
Oh and the nipples with a skin graft!? How fucking Wild are those things ?! They do not get enough credit !
Nipple graft is when they detach the nipple and reattach, not something they put *on* the nipples. Keyhole usually keeps the nipple in tact (ideally)
Hope this helps clarify :)

What if you do have a fever cause I just had top a week ago and have had a fever and my drains still aren’t running clear
I would contact your surgeon to be safe
They may call an antibiotic in for you
Oh yeah I am taking an antibiotic just wondering what it meant that I have a fever lol
It means your body is doing a great job at fighting your infection.
Your username is 👌
It could be a sign of infection
You should talk to your surgeon about that. That's a sign of infection.
It’s very normal to see clots/fat clumps in drain bulbs! Better to have them outside than inside
Oh absolutely! If those are fat clumps then that makes a lot more sense, I was just worried it was pus or something lol

Very normal, just pray it doesn't get stuck in the entry way to where the tube connects like it did for me 😭😭
Oh shoot yeah I'll make sure to watch out for that!

Thank you so much! I've been making sure to smell cuz I hear thats one of the easiest ways to tell but so far so good luckily!
I had so much of that and red stringy tissue in my drains
Yeah I'm getting a decent amount of it, I'm p sure the red is blood clots but I was super confused about the yellow stuff 🤔

Yeah I can't see my incisions yet but everything else I'll make sure to keep in mind! Thank you!
Oh also! Are nipple grafts always used? I got keyhole and I can't tell yet if they put those on me

Ohh ok, I wasn't sure how it worked I just remembered that it's not something that's done for keyhole, thank you for the clarification!
Got my drains out a few days ago and prior to that I had a few weird blood clots that looked like that. All good!
Thank god, I keep getting so worried lol 😭
I had a couple of those. If they don't smell any different and aren't yellowish, I think it's fine. Super gross, though. Haha
Looks like chicken 🍗
