It takes about 50 years to wear one of these out. Because my dad bought one at 18 and replaced it this year at 78. Levi’s brand, corduroy with real shearling lining. Was his any cold weather all winter coat (mild winters here). He joked about the first one being a lot cheaper, but bought an identical replacement at the wester wear store.
What wore out? Cuffs were frayed, fabric that held the snaps wore out allowing the snaps to fall off. Elbows worn through (patched a long time ago and wore through twice) Wool wore off the hide at the collar and around the armhole seams. Bottom edge frayed snd worn.
Those are all areas that can be repaired. The trick is to make the repairs when you notice wear. Elbow patches can look fantastic. Collars and waistbands are an easy fix for a professional. I’m saddened when I see or read about great items being tossed. My sister used to throw clothes away if they lost a button or jammed a zipper. She stopped when I pointed out the err of her ways.
Oh he did, but he also wore it working in the yard & on the cars. It was *done.* It wasn't just a little tattered, it was nothing left to repair kind of worn. And the car grunge wasn't removable anymore either.
Very. Being wrapped in it as a little kid makes the smell of engine grease a happy memory for me. I don’t trust a mechanic shop that does smell ‘right’.
Wrangler makes one like that but there are probably cheaper alternatives. I’d check Depop and other secondhand websites if you don’t want to pay full price ✌️
Man I wish I wasn’t late for this, I went on a search for the jacket Rocky wears when he’s training to fight Ivan Drago and kept finding this exact one in your picture lol
I love this sub. I'm not a collector, but often I am reminded of a time in my life that brings up so many memories.

I have that exact vintage cord Levi’s coat. There not cheap sadly
They will last for a very, very long time, like Carhart stuff, so fiscally is good investment.

It was well loved then.

Yeah, Levi’s has been the standard for these jackets for decades…the denim is the most popular; the corduroy obvs is a great look too
They were corduroy and sherpa usually....suuuuuper warm.
Sherpa lined jacket. Looks like a corduroy but not sure.
Levi's makes a sherpa.
I have one like this from Levi’s and it’s my absolutely favorite. Great quality too.
My boyfriend had one in college and we called it a shearling. But his was leather with the fleece intact.
Those are definitely popular again too.
Sherpa jackets.
1970’s. The memories

I have a denim Wrangler one. Found it at a thrift store.

The Levi’s ones are best, but American Eagle made one for awhile, might be able to find one of those a bit cheaper.
Corduroy Borg jacket brings up pretty much the exact coat!
Wool lined leather bomber circa 1976.
Shearling Jacket is what we used to call it.
