a while back I was detrashing and found a dead tangled horseshoe crab in fishing line, I removed the line from the environment but there is still much more out there. Please if you're out for a walk or what not and you see line or trash please consider picking it up, it could say a dinosaur.

I would guess that a lot more people would start picking up trash if it had a chance to say "a dinosaur". That would be rad.

Hey at least he’s raising awareness with his karma whoring.

sparkpaw

“Ankylosaurous!” *oooh another line!* “Gigantoraptor!” *Mom!!! This is so cool!!!* Yeah… I’d pay for that tbh.

Thank you for your efforts. Its a small job that means a lot to creatures that can't protect themselves from us. You are a hero. We are lucky to live in a magical place where we get to discover tide pools and the ocean at her finest. I pick up garbage, especially tiny bits and always fishing line. I tell my young kids we have to keep the ocean clean and not to let the fish confuse plastic for food. I feel not only do i have to clean up, I have to teach my kids to do the same. Tiny efforts help!

Oske147

Omg it’s so romantic that you call the ocean a “her”, in my language it’s a “him” and I never thought how better is to refer at it as a “her”

senkichi

The ocean, she can be a cruel mistress! Yarr

Take my upvote, don’t understand why your comment has gotten such little attention on this popular of a post. He even tried to claim he randomly stumbled upon it while walking on the beach lol what a liar

Not_so_ghetto

I think the post was removed( looking at r/biology it's not longer there).

I myself have started doing this too! Especially with cigarette butts as a smoker myself. I'm the one in my friend group always reminding my friends pick up their cigarette butts if they happen to throw them in the ground. All the articles about how wildlife suffer mostly a very painful and slow death due to swallowing of the micro plastics have had an effect on me.

NirvanaPenguin

I do go pick trash to the beach on weekends, enormous ropes from fishing boats float over once in a while and I tie them up to dead trees so the UV light can finish destroying them, not sure what else to do with them as they are not usefull as rope anymore, a strong pull and they break.

LoreleiOpine

u/harryfghgfhgf, "it could say a dinosaur"?

Oiggamed

Used fishing line belongs in a fire. No other safe way to dispose of it.

-moog-

I saw[ this anhinga](https://i.imgur.com/6bV6KWF.jpg) caught on fishing line and was lucky to flag down some canoers who cut it loose. It could have ended like this poor horseshoe crab. :(

Dinogar999

"it could save a dinosaur" Save me!

Echo_Oscar_Sierra

Me: *picks up fishing line* Fishing line: "a dinosaur!"

DiscoStewStew

Save the blue blooded dinosaures 🙏🏼

woodnymph1809

I picked some up recently. It was a huge mess of line. The sad thing was the trashcan was ten feet away.

goldenhairmoose

Amazing creatures. One of my few dreams is to see a horseshoe crab. I am still hoping, maybe someday...

TalpaDiLab

wait a sec do you mean they walk on land?! I thought they were strictly water animals!

idonthave2020vision

This makes me sad. I use to always pick up trash I found in nature but since covid I became more afraid to touch old coffee cups, etc. Once I get my next dose I'm hoping I'll feel comfortable again

RabidLeroy

And now a moment of silence for the unfortunate little crab.

Xmas_Squirrel

They're one of the most important creatures in the world in regards to medical science (sadly.. But they save so many lives) and to see this really broke my heart.
